Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is an entrapment median neuropathy, that causes wrist pain, numbness, or altered nerve sensations such as hot, or cold sensations.
This entrapment or pressure on the median nerve is located at the carpal tunnel region of the wrist and is usually due to chronic overuse of the wrist due to work or recreational activity. In addition, carpal tunnel syndrome can also occur when there is compression of the median nerve anywhere along the course of where the nerve runs from the neck, shoulder or elbow. That’s why a proper diagnosis of where the compression is occurring is so important to treating and resolving chronic wrist pain or carpal tunnel syndrome.
